Nā Akua Ākea Exhibition
In partnership with Hui Ulana ‘Ie o Maui, Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel will host the Nā Akua Ākea Exhibition which is the culmination of a year-long weaving journey of nine (9) Maui haumāna practitioners. This exhibition features the ʻieʻie baskets, fish traps, fans, and the final project, kiʻi akua.
The exhibit will be organized and installed by Kumu Kumulāʻau Sing and Kumu Haunani Balino-Sing as well as their cohort of students.
Guests of Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel will be allowed to sign up to view this exhibit as a class at the Hale Hoʻokipa. It will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 10:00 am (subject to change) and taught by Kaila Miyaguchi, who will explain proper protocols and behavior while viewing the cultural items.
The cost to view the exhibit is free. A $3 donation will be accepted in exchange for an Educational Guide. All proceeds will be donated to benefit Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House.
