Maui
is located in the center of the Hawaiian Island chain. It is the
second largest island, 729 square miles.
Nicknamed the Valley Isle because of its formation between two volcanoes,
dormant Haleakala Crater (elevation 10, 023 feet) and Kahalawai,
or the West Maui Mountains, whose highest peak, Puu Kukui, is
5,788 feet. Maui county is made up of four islands, Maui, Molokai,
Lanai, and Kahoolawe.
Maui is known for its many beaches that stretch
along the west coast of the island from Kapalua to Makena. East
Maui, along the Hana coast, is graced with waterfalls and wayside
parks for swimming and picnicking. A national park, Haleakala
is the world's largest dormant volcano whose scenic beauty ranges
from lush pastures and verdant farmland to arid grasslands dotted
with cactus and terraced by lava formations. The summit of Haleakala
appears otherworldly with its sloping, swirling colorful lava
and many cinder cones. Hiking is popular throughout the island.
The diversity of Maui's scenic attractions, combined with a variety
of unique activities have earned it top honors as the "Best
Island in the World" according to the readers of Conde Nast
Traveler magazine.
The Kaanapali Beach Resort is the world's first
planned resort community. Within its 1,200 acres there are two
championship golf courses, private homes, five condominiums, several
restaurants, the Whaler's Village Shopping Center and Museum,
and six hotels. The resort is situated on the finest stretch of
Kaanapali Beach, and its focal point is Puu Kekaa, commonly
known as Black Rock. Enjoyed by many for its excellent snorkeling
and SCUBA diving, this area is one of Maui's sacred historical
sites. It is also home to a resort tradition. Each evening, the
torches are lit and a cliff diving ceremony is held in tribute
to its historic past.
Welcome to Maui's most Hawaiian Hotel, home to
visitors from around the world since its opening in 1964. Located
on the beach, at a moderate price, Ka'anapali Beach Hotel is the
choice for value conscious travelers of all ages.
The hotel is located between the Sheraton Maui and The Whaler
condominium. Pu'u Keka'a is just a short stroll down the beach
to the north, while the 60+ shops and restaurants of Whaler's
Village and Museum are just a five minute walk to the south of
the property. With so much within an easy walk, Ka'anapali Beach
Hotel's location provides convenient access to the resort's many
amenities.
Just three miles south of the resort is Lahaina Town, a lively little port that is one of Maui's top visitor attractions. Lahaina, once the royal capitol of the Hawaiian kingdom, still exudes a special charm that contributes to its rich heritage. Lahaina is home to some of the finest eateries, art galleries and shopping in the Pacific. Built on the water's edge, the town has several sites and artifacts from its royal Hawaiian past, its whaling and missionary era, and its days as a multi-ethnic plantation town. In addition to history, the many ocean activities available from the Lahaina Harbor along with a variety of shops and attractions make Lahaina Town a frequent spot for Maui visitors. Other attractions include movie theaters, traditional Hawaiian entertainment, an unique theatrical production and nightclubs.
