Kaanapali Beach Hotel Receives Top Honor from TravelAge West Magazine

Hawaii’s Most Hawaiian Hotel Recognized for its Cultural Experience at this Year’s WAVE Awards

Kaanapali Beach, Maui, Hawaii (June 13, 2008) - TravelAge West, a popular trade publication among travel agents, presented Kaanapali Beach Hotel with the coveted “Best Resort for a Hawaiian Cultural Experience” award at its third annual WAVE (Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence) Awards, that took place in Beverly Hills, California on June 5, 2008. Kaanapali Beach Hotel also received the Editor’s Pick award in the same category.

Kaanapali Beach Hotel was one of only 125 companies, individuals and destinations recognized by the readers of TravelAge West at the WAVE Awards ceremony hosted by Publisher Michelle Rosenberg. The awards gave travel agents in the Western United States the opportunity to recognize the outstanding qualities and services of their travel supplier partners.

“At TravelAge West, we pride ourselves on our first-hand reports from the field. Our destination stories are about the on-site experience of a place and these awards are an extension of our expertise,” said Editor-in-Chief Ken Shapiro. “For each category, the editors on our staff did extensive research. All of the recipients should feel proud of their achievement.”

Travel agent professionals throughout the 14 western states were invited to vote on the best-of-the-best from a list of nominees in each category selected by the editorial staff. In addition, Editor’s Pick awards were chosen after careful review by the magazine’s editorial team. Review methods included product analysis, on-site visits, a survey of a select group of travel agents and online research.

“We are proud to be one of the Hawaiian companies honored with this award,” said General Manager Mike White. “We believe it is our responsibility to teach and share Hawai‘i’s rich culture with our employees, community, and guests. Mahalo to the travel agents and editors who voted for us and recognized our passion.”

In 1995, Kaanapali Beach Hotel was officially awarded the title of The Most Hawaiian Hotel in the State of Hawai‘i by the Waiaha Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture. To date, no other property has met or exceeded the criteria for this prestigious award. Most recently, Kaanapali Beach Hotel was highlighted as one of 150 properties named in National Geographic Traveler’s Stay List, recognized for its dedication to offering guests a unique cultural experience and preserving the local heritage. The hotel has also been recognized by the White House for its commitment to volunteerism and community service and the He Kuleana Ke Aloha lifetime achievement award by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority for demonstrating ongoing responsibility, personal commitment and dedication to honoring and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture for generations to come.
