KA`ANAPALI BEACH HOTEL RECOGNIZED ON
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER’S “STAY LIST”
Hawai`i’s Most Hawaiian Hotel Receives Top Honors for
Offering Guests an Authentic Cultural Experience
Ka`anapali Beach, Maui, Hawaii (April 3, 2008) - Ka`anapali Beach Hotel, Hawai`i’s Most Hawaiian Hotel, is one of 150 properties named in National Geographic Traveler’s first-ever Stay List, published in the April issue. Hotels and resorts featured on the list are recognized for their dedication to offering guests a unique cultural experience and preserving the local heritage.
“It’s thrilling to see how many folks in the accommodations business truly care about offering guests a sense-of-place experience,” says Traveler Senior Editor Sheila Feldman Buckmaster. “The hotels and inns that made it onto the list give back to the community, work to conserve and sustain, and — day in and day out — celebrate the very best that their destinations have to offer.”
More than 600 properties in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean were nominated for the Stay List by seasoned travelers and travel professionals. The nominees underwent an in-depth review by the magazine’s editorial staff where they were judged in the following categories: location-inspired architecture, ambiance and amenities, eco-stewardship and an ethic of giving back to the community.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by National Geographic Traveler,” said General Manager Mike White. “We believe it is our responsibility to teach and share Hawai`i’s rich culture with our guests. Our Hawaiian-ness is not what we do, it is who we are.”
In 1995, Ka`anapali Beach Hotel was officially awarded the title of The Most Hawaiian Hotel in the State of Hawai`i by the Waiaha Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture. To date, no other property has met or exceeded the criteria for this prestigious award. The hotel has also been recognized by President Bush for its commitment to volunteerism and community service and most recently received the He Kuleana Ke Aloha lifetime achievement award by the Hawai`i Tourism Authority for demonstrating ongoing responsibility, personal commitment and dedication to honoring and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture for generations to come.
